The Town of Irvington is located in Lancaster County, in
the Northern Neck of Virginia, in the area known as Tidewater.
The Town was incorporated in 1955 and is approximately 2.0
square miles in size with a little less than 9 miles of
shoreline. It is primarily a residential community boasting
a population of approximately 600 people.
An Irvington automobile tag is to be purchased ($20) annually
at the Town Office, 235 Steamboat Road, Irvington, beginning
on February 15th through March 31st (therefore, a County
tag is not required).
A zoning permit is required for house construction, including
an addition or alteration; also for construction of a fence,
a building or a shed, placement of a flag pole and/or sign,
swimming pool (above ground or in-ground with a conditional
use permit), walk way and generally, any construction that
affects the footprint of a structure. A zoning permit is
to be obtained at the Town Office prior to commencing construction;
the fee is $35.
Should you plan to operate a business in Irvington, it
is necessary to first have your planned activity reviewed
by the Planning Commission at a Public Hearing and thereafter
at a Public Hearing before the Town Council for its approval
(ie., a conditional use permit procedure; fee is $35). It
should be noted that our ordinance includes regulations
addressing parking and signage.
Upon obtaining a zoning permit, generally it is necessary
to obtain a building permit from the Lancaster County Land
Use Office.
